SPRING UPDATE FROM THE FARMSAll of our crew members are back on the farms and we’re back in full swing. Crops are being seeded, transplanted, covered, cultivated, weeded, mulched. Cover crops are growing or being planted. A feat of planning and puzzling for the year of food to come! Over the last month we’ve watched early greens grow and strawberries bloom. Unfortunately last week’s frost was one of the worst in memory for many farms in the area. While the greens remained strong, many of the strawberry blooms succumbed to the freeze. The crop will be smaller this season, but we’re keeping our fingers crossed that the berries that remain grow extra big and juicy and delicious. And even when the harvest is low, you can know that we’ll save a share of it for you. Farming in a changing climate is challenging, nevertheless every seed sown is a bit of hope for the future. We’re planting thousands of plants & seeds a day, each one with the promise of future abundance. We’re even planting about 15,000 new strawberry plants with the promise of delicious berries for years to come. 2023 marks our 19th season growing together as a Collective, and we hope it will be the best yet. We’ve got amazing teams on the farms (almost all returning crew!) and a wonderful roster of partner farms contributing to the share and offering Side Dish CSAs too (be sure to check those out!).
